However, I would recommend The Devil in the White City as a gift better fitting for dads rather than moms, and after reading Sexing the Cherry by Jeannette Winterson, I would probably never read another book by her, even if my "Obscure Object of Desire" was the one to give it to me.
That said, for all those gift-givers out there, I do love the sounds of Thirsty, Fledgling, The Master and Margarita, and The Elegance of the Hedgehog.
