Handmade Greeting Cards

For Christmas, I made my boyfriend's family a box of greeting cards, since almost all of the kids are now living away from home, and since they all love to receive mail. I googled some images of things the family loves (Boston Terriers, golf, pandas, sock monkeys) and drew these images onto white paper and xeroxed them. Then, I added craft paper and did some quick stitching, and voila! you have some handmade greeting cards.

I was so happy with how they all turned out. I just loved how the Bostons resembled their own dogs!

Confession: I'm contemplating starting an etsy account. Any suggestions? :)

Things I've been thinking about lately:

and...

4. Heavy velvet drapes (for keeping the heat in)!

[Also, I promise I'll get my book review of Mennonite in a Little Black Dress up tomorrow.]

Knit Hats & Winter Warmth

It seems that the winter chill has arrived--I broke down and put another blanket on my bed today since my house is one hundred and eighteen years old, and doesn't like to keep heat in its frail bones. My ears are always one of the first parts of my body to be affected by temperature, and so my wonderfully-crafty (and newly engaged!) roommate seemingly made it her mission to keep all of our ears warm this winter:

I'm just so excited for my new hat & so impressed by the handiwork that I needed to post a few pictures. I chose a nice plum yarn, and once the hat was knit and pearled, I added a few yellow-ish buttons for embellishment:

I'm hoping now it will be a cozy winter, full of warmth from our "fireplace," snuggly blankets, and nice, warm ears.

Wish List: Jersey Scarf

Lately, I've been drooling over the jersey scarves that have been popping up all over the place. (My roommate even scored one at a craft show awhile back, and I've had my eye on it ever since!) I'm totally loving the trees, birds, and especially the owls that are such a staple to handmade goodies lately, and quite frankly, I don't think I'll ever get my coveted jersey scarf simply because I will never be able to choose!

I love the owl pattern on this one by PrettyRaccoon on etsy.com.

I rarely wear orange, yet I'm crazy about the awesomely-detailed pine cones, and the fact that the left side is different than the right on this scarf by NewDuds at esty.com. (They also have an awesome tentacle-clad scarf that I weirdly adore.)

This one, by alisontauber at etsy.com is so beautifully feminine that I feel like I'm seven years old and wearing stiff little ballet slippers again!
